THCA is the natural precursor to Delta-9 THC. In raw, unheated cannabis flower, the plant produces THCA — which on its own isn't psychoactive. The moment you apply heat (lighter, vaporizer, oven), THCA converts to Delta-9 THC and behaves exactly like any other cannabis flower.
The legal distinction: hemp-derived THCA flower contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC at the time of testing, which makes it federally legal to ship under the 2018 Farm Bill. Once you heat it, it does what cannabis flower has always done.
